The acronym MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This rating is used to communicate what level of filtering a air filter provides. The higher the MERV rating the more efficient the filter is i.e. MERV four filters out dust, MERV 13 filters virus’ and bacteria. The challenge is the higher the MERV rating the more restrictive the air flow. We always use the highest MERV value filter for the cabin air filter that will pass sufficient air flow. We have 8 MERV, 10 MERV, and 13 MERV options available. Most vehicles can’t handle a MERV 13 due to how restrictive the air flow is.
Nearly all vehicles can handle a MERV 8 filter. The good news is a MERV 8 filter is still a very good filter. It can filter mold spores, smoke, SMOG, and pollen.
